A New Beginning~

Tml will be the 1st day of school... Excited? Well.. dunno.. Maybe ba~
But at the same time, worry.. Coz since Oct 2004, i haven been studying(After Oct04, project phrase follow by attachment), so it has been a whole 10 months that i haven touch lecture notes etc..

Anyway, in this semester, i will be taking a total of 6 modules.

CS1101 Programming Methodology
This module introduces the fundamental concepts of programming from an object-oriented perspective, and is perceived as the first and foremost introductory course to computing. It is the first of a two part series on introductory programming, which also includes CS1102. Topics covered include: overview of programming languages and compilation process, objects, classes, methods, fundamental programming constructs (variables, types, expressions, assignments, message passing, etc.), fundamental data structures: arrays, string, basic recursion, I/O, exception handling, use of APIs and class libraries, subclassing and inheritance, debugging and testing. Module activities include lectures, recitation, tutorial and laboratory exercises.

CS1104 Computer Organisation
This module aims to familiarise students with the fundamental building blocks of computer systems, and to give a better understanding on how a high-level language program actually works inside a computer. Topics covered include: Number systems and codes; Boolean algebra and logic gates; simplification of Boolean functions; Karnaugh maps; combinational circuits; basic organisation and von Neumann model; memory hierarchy (main memory; cache; virtual memory); input/output; CPU structure and organisation (control unit; instruction fetch, decode, and execution); assembly language programming (instruction formats; types of operations; addressing modes).

ET1000 English for Academic Purpose
The course emphasizes language proficiency in the areas of reading, writing and speaking. It comprises grammar review, text editing, reading comprehension, paragraph writing, essay writing and mini-presentations.

LSM1302 Genes and Society
This module introduces the subject of molecular and cell biology (MCB) and connects its historical background with contemporary issues. The application of MCB to society in terms of medicine, agriculture, legal aspects, forensic studies, environmental issues and biological warfare would be convered. Topics also include the ethics of genetic engineering and genetic predictions.

MA1301 Introductory Mathematics
This module serves as a bridging module for students without 'A' - level mathematics. Its aim is to equip students with appropriate mathematical knowledge and skill so as to prepare them for further study of mathematics-related disciplines. At the end of the course, students are expected to attain a level of proficiency in algebra and calculus equivalent to the GCE Advanced Level. Major topics: Sets and functions. Polynomials. Inequalities. Arithmetic and geometric series. Binomial theorem. Induction. Trigonometry. Complex numbers. Limits. Differentiation and applications. Maclaurin's series. Integration and applications. First-order ordinary differential equations.

MKT1003 Principle of Marketing
This module is designed to provide knowledge, techniques and understanding of marketing principles. It provides students with a conceptual framework to analyse and interpret marketing phenomena and to suggest courses of action in response to marketing problems. It covers topics such as the marketing concept, the marketing environment and the marketing mix which includes product, pricing, distribution and promotion. Other related topics include consumer behaviour, market segmentation and targeting, marketing research and information system, marketing planning, implementation and control, and public issues in marketing. This is a foundation module for business students and provides the basis for later concentration in the marketing area.

For the time-being, i know that i will have friends to be with ard during some lecture and some tutorials, so at least i don't feel so lonely.. Just hope that things go fine..
